The History of Catholic Engaged Encounter

Founded in 1975, Catholic Engaged Encounter (known as, CEE) is an International organization offering a marriage preparation program to the Catholic Church. CEE is an lay organization completely operated by volunteers and funded solely by donations.

CEE has grown since its founding from a few dozen married couples and priests to several thousand volunteers working within the CEE ministry, ministering to the engaged. Catholic Engaged Encounter has moved from just several dioceses in the USA to almost all of the dioceses within the US.

CEE in the USA has expanded enormously since 1975 to many other countries throughout the world. CEE has spread right across Canada. Canada has a Western District Board that groups together communities from Manitoba to BC. In Canada, there is an English Western District Board, an English Eastern District Board and French Eastern District Board.

Other religious faiths have also taken the CEE outline, with permission, and have adapted it to meet the needs of their engaged couples.

CEE presenting couples come from every walk of life, young and old, from the highly trained professional to the skilled laborer, but these CEE couples all have one thing in common; "they believe in marriage, they believe in the sacrament of marriage and the commitment to make Christ's love know to all people through the love they have and show for one another."
